Acute Care Nurse Assistant Model CurriculumHistory and Background – 2006 RevisionThe 2006 revision has involved general updating of content and references by a variety of instructorswho are actively teaching in CNA programs. It has also included correlation with the 2004 CNAModel Curriculum (CNA-MC); this correlation was completed by J. Kelly Graves. Some of thelearning activities which had previously been scanned have been redone for better clarity (specialthanks to Lauren Roberts for her diligence). While the general organization of the curriculum is thesame, we have created separate modules for units which had previously involved more than onetopic. For example, rather than have a module on Genitorurinary/ Reproductive/Endocrine, we havecreated three separate modules. We additionally have developed a module on Pediatrics for optionaluse in those programs which use Pediatrics for a portion of their clinical experience. These changesare reflected in the Instructional Clock Hours table; didactic instruction has increased from a possible40 hours to 55, and clinical has increased from a possible 40 hours to 61. These hours arerecommended, but not mandated. Programs should determine priority skills so that those whocomplete the Acute Care Nurse Assistant course are prepared to meet the expectations of acutecare facilities in that community.To avoid duplication in content, multiple references are included.
